26 January 10 - Kent SME turnover and recruitment expectations are rising according to Business Link research

19% of Kent SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) plan to take on staff during 2010 according to Business Link’s research* around attitudes to economic recovery published this week. The research also reveals that SME optimism levels, related to growth in their company’s turnover, have returned to pre-recession levels. Kent SMEs expecting turnover growth dipped to only 26% in March 2009 and rose to 43% in November 2009.

27 October 09 - Retailers rise above the recession

More than three quarters (80%) of retailers* in Kent are confident of surviving the recession, according to the latest research from Business Link.

However, one in four (26%) of the owners of small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) interviewed for the quarterly South East Business Monitor had seen a drop in customer numbers over the past 12 months. Almost half (49%) of the retailers reported lower spend per customer and 55% had adopted discounting.

7 October 09 - Business Link Team Follow Own Advice

A team of Business Link in Kent employees had to draw on their own advice regarding teamwork and facing challenges in order to complete the Leeds Castle 10K run in support of Cancer Research UK.

The team, which consisted of Tony Logan, Peter Green, Jane Ollis, Jane Stevens, Barry Charlton, Valerie Pondaven and Jason Martin all completed the race, with Peter Green and Tony Logan finishing in times of just under 49 minutes.

6 October 09 - Unlocking the next generation of talent

Just one in 10 people aged 16 to 24 years old who consider starting a business actually take the plunge.

Business Link is urging young people to think creatively about the opportunities available to them, particularly with the tough job market and increasing competition for university places.

Research from Make Your Mark, the national campaign to increase entrepreneurial behaviour in young people, showed that 5% of those sampled have started their own business – yet a massive 51% have considered, but not attempted to set up their own business.
